Walker Institute, University of Reading
aligning perceptions for a new institute.
1 name
and proposition, built from stakeholder interviews and workshops.
the context
Before it had a name, the Walker Institute was an initiative of climate researchers with significant funding. The idea was to pool the efforts of leading UK climate research organisations, and use their findings to advise government and industry from a scientific perspective, free of prevailing preconceptions.
the challenge
It needed a name its members could identify with and belong to, a concise way to convey its purpose while overcoming the sensationalism around climate, a strategy and materials for the launch, and a foundation for communication as it grew.
what we did
We interviewed stakeholders, influencers, potential members and partners to establish a rationale for the name and values, then ran workshops to articulate a proposition. We created the vision, values and brand guidelines, and the tools to launch and grow the institute, from displays and presentations to brochures and the website.
the results.
- 1 name, after Sir Gilbert Walker, a pioneer of climate understanding
- hard science a proposition focused on research and its benefits, not catastrophe
- flagship now the University of Reading’s flagship research centre
The launch event featured the UK Government Chief Scientific Adviser and the University of Reading Vice Chancellor.
Glued worked with us to develop our proposition, visual identity, our website and print material for the launch. Since then they have done a range of brochures and exhibition material for us. I can’t praise Glued highly enough. They quickly gained an understanding of our organisation, our stakeholders and our needs for the brand.
